With so much intensity swirling, it feels important to me to only share what is most soothing for my own nervous system right now.
Like many of you, I’m surfing the waves of noise and uncertainty and actively seeking ways to calm myself and regain my center every day – sometimes through creative practices, other times through calming words or music, and tonight through eating chocolate chips right out of the bag 🙂
There are a few voices I’m finding particularly honest, grounding, and insightful right now. I experience an almost instant sense of peace when I listen to each of them. I hope you feel that too. Here are some specific audio tracks I’ve really enjoyed.
Tara Brach’s podcast: Change, Loss, and Timeless Love Part One and Change, Loss, and Timeless Love Part Two (Retreat Talk).
Sarah Blondin’s Live Awake podcast: Heartminded: Your Seed of Softness.
All of the under five-minute clips from Morgan Harper Nichols are treasures of wisdom, but I especially enjoyed Anxiousness and Grace and What You May Not Know about Inspiration. Check out Morgan’s art and illustrations too.
If you’re looking for some sweet music to calm your nerves, I created the Deep Breaths Playlist with all my favorite comforting tunes just for you. (You will need a Spotify account to listen, but you can create one for free).
In the art-making department, I haven’t been doing much in the way of large, layered paintings in the last few weeks, but I’m really enjoying playing with simple, loose lines and finding solace in the simplicity.
I hope you, too, are finding ways to feel grounded and connected and I hope what I’ve shared here will be of some help.
Sending love to your beautiful brave heart and to all my friends in the U.S., please, please, please, remember to VOTE.
With love,
xo flora
