On Christmas morning, I woke up, snapped this picture, and posted it on my social media page with a holiday wish.
What happened next was really unexpected. I received more messages and comments about my silver hair than about any other post I’ve ever made!
If you know me, you know I’ve been coloring my hair every color of the rainbow for my entire adult life. But I’ve never let my silvers grow out… until now.
I’m not gonna lie. It’s been a journey to get comfortable with them, but after reading all your encouraging words, I thought… DAMN, WE ARE READY FOR TRUTH. WE ARE READY FOR WISDOM. WE ARE READY TO BE REAL.
While I’m sure I’ll still dye my silvers pink from time to time (because ARTIST + FUN), what I’m feeling right now runs deeper than that.
As we shift into this new year, I feel a collective letting go of expectations, facades, and needing things to be a certain way – like a peeling back of what no longer serves and what’s keeping us from our truth. In the creative process, this kind of letting go is exactly what allows for the freedom to be with what IS. And from that place, we get to choose again… and again… and again. Steering then releasing. Adding in and letting go. This is where the magic happens.
The truth is we never really know what the future holds, and if this past year drove that message home for many of us, then I believe we’re better off for it.
As I quietly step into this next stage of the great mystery (aka 2021), I’m keeping my knees bent, my fists unclenched, and my heart open. My wish for you is that you feel closer to your truth, less weighed down by old stories that no longer lift you up, and more connected to what really matters – silver, brown, pink, red, green, black, blonde hair and all.
I love you. You’re amazing just as you are.
